A wine barrel coffee table project is a great shop project detailing the construction from start to finish. A beautiful piece of furniture.
Projects with wine barrels can turn out to be a lot of fun turning the wine barrels into many amazing projects. Your imagination will lead you to many unique creations from coffee tables to smokers and everything in between.
How To Get Started
Where to start is the key to any project. Building projects with wine barrels means having to find the barrels. Depending where you live, I have found barrels at flea markets, some hardware stores and the wineries themselves.
Gathering Different Wine Barrel Ideas
As you may already know, there are many cool wine barrel projects out there. One of my favorite locations is the internet at http://bit.ly/1LxcHu6
In this post we will be building a wine barrel coffee table which makes a great addition to any home..
Building A Wine Barrel Coffee Table
If you have a full size barrel, you will begin by removing the bands and cutting the barrel length wise in two haves. This can be done by use of a jig saw or reciprocating saw.
Once cut in half, take your sander and smooth the joints and barrel to prepare it for stain. Once sanded, replace the bands.
Using some heavy lumber, form two cradles to serve as the base for the barrel to sit on. Take your time to get a perfect fit.
Around the open part of the barrel, build a frame to attach the table top. This is attached by first drilling holes to install screws.
Building The Table Top
Using 3/4 inch boards , build the table top a 1/2 inch larger than the upper frame to allow you to easily lift the table top which is hinged to the frame.
Finishing Your Wine Barrel Coffee Table
The final steps are to stain and apply a finish to the table. The metal bands are painted back making a very attractive wine barrel coffee table with storage.
